KHLIEHRIAT: The Social Awareness and Action to Neutralize Pneumonia Successfully (SAANS) campaign was launched today in East Jaintia Hills District. The program, organized by the office of the District Medical & Health Officer, aimed to raise awareness about pneumonia prevention and treatment.
District Medical & Health Officer Dr. D. Shylla emphasized pneumonia’s treatable nature and stressed initiatives for generating awareness on prevention and treatment aspects.
District Immunization Officer Dr. N. P. Suchiang discussed pneumonia types, medication periods, and the importance of immunization and early identification.
The program included a demonstration of the 7-step hand washing technique by CHO Smt. R. Pala and ASHAs.
The SAANS campaign, launched nationally in 2019, focuses on accelerating action against childhood pneumonia through community awareness and education. Key objectives include educating families and parents on childhood pneumonia prevention and treatment.
Encouraging caregivers to recognize pneumonia symptoms. Promoting care-seeking behaviors.
