KHLIEHRIAT:
A well-known lawyer and social activist in Jaintia Hills, Kynjaimon Amse, was killed in a road accident that occurred around 1:00 am on August 23 at Dkhiah East in East Jaintia Hills District. Late Amse was also the Assistant Rangbah Shnong (Headman) of Umkiang village.
Three others, including the driver, were severely injured and rushed to Khliehriat Civil Hospital.
As a lawyer and social activist, Amse had filed several Public Interest Litigations (PILs) in the Meghalaya High Court, particularly regarding the deplorable road conditions in Jaintia Hills.
He led numerous peace agitations and rallies protesting poor road development, inadequate mobile connectivity, and substandard healthcare in Huroi, Hingaria, Lailong, and other villages bordering Bangladesh in the Narpuh Area.
According to Umkiang Headman Lasting Pala, Amse’s funeral will be held on Sunday, August 25, at 1:00 pm in the Catholic Church Cemetery.
