SHILLONG:
Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma held an emergency review meeting to assess the ongoing flood situation in Garo Hills, which has affected all five districts, particularly South Garo Hills and West Garo Hills.
Incessant rains since Friday midnight have led to severe flooding in Dalu area of West Garo Hills and plain belt areas, with Gasuapara in South Garo Hills badly affected. A bridge has been washed away, and three civilians have lost their lives in Dalu.
The Chief Minister has directed the administration to release ex-gratia to next of kin of deceased and seek assistance from the Government.
Also to Ensure relief operations in affected areas and to identify alternative routes to restore road communication in Dalu-Baghmara area and to restore wooden bridges using Bailey bridge technology.
Besides three person that have been was away at Dalu, seven others have been confirm dead in Hatiasia Songma village under Gasuapara Police Station in South Garo Hills, buried under a landslide.
NDRF teams are conducting search and rescue operations.
Meahwhile Officials informed that electricity will be restored in most parts of the region by today.
Sangma emphasized easing public life and ensuring adequate relief operations.
The administration has been put on high alert, with officials directed to continuously monitor the situation.
