Conrad Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, recently honored eight senior journalists for their remarkable contributions to the state’s journalism landscape, spanning over three decades his recognition took place at the 1st Meghalaya Media Meet in Shillong, where the Chief Minister acknowledged the pivotal role media plays in shaping public perception, influencing policy-making, and ensuring government accountability.

The Media Meet served as a platform to foster government-press synergy, promoting collaborative efforts for positive change. Sangma emphasized the importance of responsible and ethical journalism, cautioning against sensationalism. He also highlighted the need for journalists to upgrade their skills in the rapidly evolving digital era.

As a token of appreciation, each of the eight senior journalists received a grant of ₹1 Lakh through the Chief Minister’s Special Grant. This gesture demonstrates the government’s commitment to recognizing and supporting the invaluable contributions of Meghalaya’s press fraternity.

The 1st Meghalaya Media Meet’s theme, ‘Redefining Journalism in the Digital Age,’ underscores the significance of adapting to the changing media landscape while maintaining the core principles of journalism. By acknowledging the senior journalists’ dedication and expertise, the government aims to encourage responsible and innovative storytelling that benefits the community.
