JOWAI:
In a significant verdict, the Court of N.A. Khan, Session Judge, West Jaintia Hills Jowai, has convicted Se Phawa, of Kyndong Tuber, for raping a woman in 2008.
The accused has been sentenced to undergo 8 years of rigorous imprisonment and ordered to pay a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh to the victim.
The incident occurred on 14th December 2008, when the victim was attacked and raped by the accused while on her way home. The victim filed a complaint at Jowai Police Station, leading to the registration of a case vide Jowai PS Case Number 156(12)2008 U/S 376/506 IPC. The investigation was led by WPSI O. Tyngkan.
After a thorough investigation and trial, the court delivered its verdict on 9th September 2024, holding the accused guilty under Section 376(1) IPC. The conviction and sentencing bring closure to the victim, who had to wait for 16 years for justice to be served.
