KHLIEHRIAT:
The District Magistrate, East Jaintia Hills District, in an order issued under Section 163 BNSS, has prohibited Bull Fights or Animal Fights within the entire district of East Jaintia Hills District.
The order was necessitated following reports of rampant holding of Bull Fights or Animal Fights especially during fetes and other festivals in some areas of East Jaintia Hills District.
According to the District Magistrate, rampant holding of Bull Fights or Animal Fights, if allowed, will violate Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and it also violates the ruling of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India in 2014 in its Judgement against Bull Fighting.
The order comes into force with immediate effect until further orders and any violation of the order shall be strictly dealt with as per legal provisions, added the District Magistrate.
