Meghalaya is making waves at the World Food India 2024 event in New Delhi, showcasing its local food brands and innovative livelihood solutions

Meghalaya is making waves at the World Food India 2024 event in New Delhi, showcasing its local food brands and innovative livelihood solutions. As a ‘Focus Partner State’, the Directorate of Food Processing, Government of Meghalaya, is highlighting the potential of its food processing sector. The event, themed ‘Processing for Prosperity’, aims to transform India into a global food basket.
*Meghalaya Pavilion and Collectives*
The Meghalaya Pavilion was inaugurated by Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, and features 21 food processing brands and FPOs under the Meghalaya Collectives initiative. This initiative plans to provide a platform for over 20 exclusive brands from the state to access domestic and international markets.
*MOU Signing*
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the National Cooperatives of Organic Limited (NCOL) and MEGNOLIA to promote organic farming and expand the market for local non-perishable organic produce.
*Key Speakers*
Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani praised the innovativeness of Meghalayan farmers, while Dr. Vijay Kumar D. highlighted the government’s vision for Meghalaya Collectives. Shri Vipul Mittal, Managing Director of NCOL, emphasized providing market access to certified organic growers.
*APEDA Report and Panel Discussion*
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) launched its report on promoting Agri-export from Meghalaya. A panel discussion on building food-brands for remote community-based organizations took place, featuring expert insights and success stories.
The World Food India 2024 event is a significant step towards promoting India’s food processing sector, and Meghalaya’s participation is a testament to its commitment to sustainable agriculture and food security.
