JOWAI:
The Office of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Jowai under Department of Social Welfare in collaboration with District School Education Officer, West Jaintia Hills celebrated Children’s Day at District Library Mynthong, Jowai under the banner ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ with the message “The Children of today will make the India of Tomorrow”. Local MLA and Chairman of Meghalaya Urban Development Authority Shri. Wailadmiki Shylla was the Chief Guest.
Addressing the students, Shri. Wailadmiki extended his warm wishes to the students on the occasion of Children’s Day, he emphasised on the importance of education, hard work and determination and encouraged the students to dream big and believe in themselves. Highlighting the theme under the banner “Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ he stressed the importance of education for every child particularly for young girls. Shri. Shylla also commended the effort of the DHEW for organising the programme.
Shri. Wailamiki urged the students to make use of the opportunity they have and stay focused and strive to set an example for others. He also extends his best wishes to all students appearing for the upcoming exams.
Smt. B. Blah, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Jowai spoke on the significance of Children’s Day celebrated on November 14 in honour of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, India first Prime Minister, Nehru’s vision for children emphasised the need for love, respect and opportunities for all.
She highlighted that children’s day is not just about celebration but also a reminder to society to focus on the rights and wellbeing of children. She stressed the importance of ensuring equal opportunities in education, career growth and development particularly for girls and marginalised children to create a brighter future for the nation.
Smt. A.P Syiem, I/c District School Education Officer, Jowai, and Smt. Y. Najiar, District Social Welfare Officer District Nodal Officer DHEW, Jowai, shared inspiring words and encouraged the students to strive for excellence.
Smt S.Lakiang, the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Ambassador,DHEW WJH, shared her inspiring journey experience in sports. She spoke about her success at the WFF India 2023 Mr & Ms East India 2023 Zonal Body Building & fitness Champion held at Ranchi Jharkhand and her achievement at Mr and Mrs India 11th National Body Building & Fitness Champion 2023 held at R,B.Dangayach Auditorium, Jaipur Rajasthan. Encouraging the students, Smt. Lakiang highlighted the significance of sports and that being involved in sports not only improves physical fitness but also strengthens emotional resilience and overall being. She emphasised the value of time management and hardwork, advising the students that dedication to both is a key to achieving success in sport and life.
Smt. S, Lakiang along with other students who have excelled in Sport and academic were felicitated by the office in the programme today.
Among them were students from North Liberty Higher Secondary School, Jowai Eriliting Pohshna (Class 10 B), Banteilang Sumer (Class 6) and Idamaya Pyrtuh (Class 9 B) who participated in the Junior Boys National Football Championship for DR B.C ROY TROPHY 2024-25 at Narianpur, Chhattisgarh.

Shri Mar Emdor Kini Sutnga of KJP Presbyterian Synod Mihngi Higher Secondary School, Jowai for his outstanding performance in the U-16 Buys Vijay Merchant Trophy, BCCI Domestic Cricket Tournament 2023-24 at Cuttack and Jamshedpur.
The office also felicitated students who excelled in academics including Mr Dauniwan Sajem, Shangpung Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shangpung and Ms Hakiru Challam, St. Mary Mazzarello Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Jowai for their outstanding performance in the SSLC result.
